SANTA CLARA, Calif. — On this week's
edition of the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, SCU student-athletes Denzel
Johnson and Nici Gilday give the latest on Santa Clara
sports.
Men's basketball faced the WCC's
Northwest teams — No. 2 Gonzaga and Portland at the Leavey
Center. The Broncos held a lead early in the second half against
Gonzaga and fought hard in front of a raucous crowd, but could not
come away with a victory. EYEBRONCO caught up with head coach Kerry
Keating and Jared
Brownridge after the Gonzaga game.
Basketball returns to action in its lone game of the week Thursday
at USF.
Forward Dominic
Romeo was named to the Allstate NABC Good Works Team for his
dedication to community service and leadership — and took
time to speak with EYEBRONCO about the achievement.
Women's basketball rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to
defeat Portland on the road and split its trip to the Northwest.
The team plays against San Francisco in Leavey on Saturday at 2
p.m. to start a three-game homestand — their final three home
games of the season.
Baseball opens the season at defending national champion and
preseason No. 1 Vanderbilt in Nashville this weekend. EYEBRONCO
spoke with junior shortstop Jose Vizcaino, Jr. about the trip.
First pitch times are 2 p.m. Friday, 12 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.
Sunday. You can listen live to all three games, with David Gentile
on the call, by going to SantaClaraBroncos.com
Softball defeated Northern Colorado in their season opener 10-2
last Friday as part of a six-game weekend. Sophomore Gianetta
France hit two home runs in each of the first two games and had
five on the weekend. The team heads down to the Fresno State
Kick-Off this weekend.
Women's water polo played four games in San Diego at the Triton
Invitational this weekend. They came away with one win vs. Marist,
10-5. They return to the pool on Sunday at 9 vs. Cal Lutheran and
5:30 vs. Sonoma State.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams were rained out over the
weekend. Each team takes on Fresno State this Saturday at the
Degheri Tennis Center, with the women playing at 10 and the men at
noon.
Bronco track begins the spring season this weekend at the Husky
Classic in Washington. EYEBRONCO spoke with senior Mary Kriege
before the team hits the road. The team competes this Friday and
Saturday. Best of luck to the Bronco runners this weekend and all
season.
Women's golf also started its spring season Monday at the Matador
Invitational in Simi Valley, and wrapped up play at the second
round Tuesday with a second place finish.
Take a look at EYEBRONCO's work over the last week at the end of
the episode. Go Broncos!
