Track Sets Two School Records at SF State Distance Carnival

SAN FRANCISCO — Two Santa Clara runners broke school records and two more set personal best marks during the SF State Distance Carnival at Cox Stadium Friday. Grayson Murphy became the first Bronco female runner to break the 11-minute mark in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Mary Kriege became the first Bronco female runner to break the 17-minute mark in the 5000 meter race.

"We had a number of student athletes take full advantage of the competition and conditions at SF State on Friday," head coach Felipe Montoro said.

On the men's side, Matt Burke ran a personal best time in the 1500 meter event and Will Burschinger ran a personal best time in the 5000 meter final.

Women's 3000m Steeplechase: Grayson Murphy 10:44.71 (School Record)

Coach Montoro: "Graysee Murphy continues to improve, dropping 19 seconds from her previous best in the 3000m steeplechase. She is now about 12-14 seconds from running a mark that will qualify for the NCAA Regional meet in Austin, Texas."

Coach Montoro: "As a group, our women's 800 meter athletes competed well in all of their heats; they were really fighting for each second and each position, it was great to watch."

Men's 800m: Nicholas Mantovani 1:58.57, Adam Vare 2:01.61, Andrew Gaddis 2:05.33

Coach Montoro: "Mary Kriege had an outstanding performance as well. Her mark of 16:56.77 is a new school record and more importantly has set her up for a run at a NCAA mark in the 10000 meter down at Mt. Sac in a few weeks."

Men's 5000m: Kurt Ruegg 14:57.12, Will Burschinger 15:42.98 (Personal Best), Peter Stephens 16:04.76

Coach Montoro: "On the men's side, we had a few athletes not at their best today. I am looking forward to getting back to work and back to racing in a few weeks with the guys. There were, however, some outstanding efforts. Matt Burke and Will Burschinger both competed really well and ran big personal bests."
