SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Jeff Alzina has been elevated to the head coach of the Santa Clara beach volleyball team, Bronco indoor volleyball head coach Erin Lindsey announced on Monday.
Alzina completed his third and fourth seasons, respectively, as an associate head coach with SCU indoor and beach volleyball while Lindsey headed both programs. The move will allow Alzina to focus solely on beach volleyball.
"It is an honor and privilege to lead this new era in Santa Clara Beach Volleyball," said Alzina. "I want to thank Coach Lindsey, Director of Athletics Renee Baumgartner and our Bronco administration for their faith and belief in not just me, but the potential of Bronco Beach volleyball. We've grown and improved at light speed the last couple of years, and this investment has paved the clear path for that success to continue."
In each of his four seasons, the beach volleyball team increased their win total, including a program-best 13 wins this past spring with a run to the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament.
Alzina, who has more than 25 years of volleyball coaching experience, has a diverse background in both the indoor and beach game, from high school through Olympic-level teams. He is the winningest coach in AVP Beach Volleyball history, with more than 1,100 victories to his credit, and won a national championship with UCLA beach volleyball in 2018.
During Alzina's time with Bronco beach, he has coached seven All-WCC selections including the 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association Top Flight award winners, Julia Sangiacomo and Michelle Shaffer.
