Full WCC Release

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Santa Clara University beach volleyball team received eight total West Coast Conference All-Academic awards Wednesday, including two first team recognitions, as the conference office announced its 2023 honors.

Julia Sangiacomo landed on the 2023 WCC All-Academic first team for the third time in her career. Sophomore Casey Campbell earned a spot on the first team, as well, in her first season of being eligible. Jordan Bennett, Claire Doud, Alexie Epstein, Alexia Gallegos, Elena Radeff and Nicole Robison all earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention accolades.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative Grade Point Average while also being a significant contributor to their team and in at least their second year at their school.

Sangiacomo, who carries a 3.948 cumulative GPA in biology, was named to the 2023 all-WCC first team earlier this month, her second straight such award and third all-WCC nod of her career. She led the Broncos with 21 wins, all at the No. 1 position, going 21-13. She was the anchor at the top spot for Santa Clara, winning there with four different partners. She earned a 2-0 sweep victory over the top pair from then-No. 18 Arizona on the Wildcats' own home sand on March 31. Sangiacomo won seven matches in a row and 11 of 12 from March 31 to April 15. Overall, she won 16 of 20 matches from March 11 to April 15 with three different partners. Sangiacomo is also a two-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll Gold Honors Recipient (2021, '22).

Campbell has a 3.967 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance. She collected 13 wins during the season, playing mainly at the No. 2 and 3 spots. She won seven times at the 2s, including a five-match winning streak playing with two different partners from March 11-25. She went 3-2 at the 2023 WCC Championship Tournament, helping the Broncos beat Saint Mary's and finish third for the second year in a row. She aso had five wins at the No. 3 spot. Campbell is a two-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll Gold Honors recipient (2021, '22) as well.

Bennett owns a 3.405 cumulative GPA in public health science. She tied with four other Broncos in 2023 with 19 wins – second-most on the team. She went 19-11 during the season, which included an 18-9 mark at the No. 4 position, a 1-1 record at No. 3 and an 0-1 showing at the 5s. Bennett regularly paired with Doud, where the duo went a combined 16-9 at the No. 4 spot. She won seven in a row from March 8-25 with two different partners, then won six of eight with Doud from April 1-15, all at the No. 4 spot. Bennett was a 2022 WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention, and received both 2021 and 2022 WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll Bronze Honors.
