Crews Complete Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Santa Clara University men and women's crews each finished their participation at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. The men finished fourth in the Petite Finals of their division while the women finished sixth in the Petite Finals of their division.

Santa Clara's men's varsity eight crossed the finish line in a time of 5:59.8, just 4/10 of a second behind third place San Diego and 3.6 seconds behind second place Georgia Tech in the Petite Finals. Drexel won the race in a time of 5:54.2 while Delaware finished fifth at 5:59.9, and Florida Tech finished sixth in a time of 6:05 flat.

The fourth place finish in the race means that the Broncos finished in 10th place out of 34 boats that entered the regatta.

SCU's women's varsity eight crossed the finish line in a time of 7:11.7 which placed them in sixth place in the Petite Final. St. Joseph's won the race in a time of 6:47.1 followed by Sacramento State and Lehigh. Drake finished fourth in a time of 6:57.8, 3/10 of a second ahead of Central Florida who finished fifth.

The Bronco women ended the regatta with their heads held high as their 12th place finish out of 41 teams included their fastest time of the season which came in Friday's repechage.

Both Bronco teams return to California to conclude their seasons next weekend at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, and with the Pac-10 Championships on Sunday, May 18. Both competitions will take place at Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif.
