Bronco Novice Eight Advances At Dad Vail

May 7, 2004

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Santa Clara University men's and women's rowing teams each participated in the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta today on the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park, Pa.

The Bronco men's and women's varsity eights both advanced past the first heat to the repechage round but did not advance to tomorrow's semifinals. The men's novice eight finished second in its heat with a time of 6:01.7 to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.

"Unfortunately, we didn't perform like we would have hoped," said women's head coach Stephanie Shepherd. "The weather really changed for the worse as the day went on and the conditions were really poor for our race in the repachage. Obviously, we weren't the only ones affected. But, it did put a damper on our day. In the heats earlier in the day, I thought we did okay, but definitely had room for improvement."
