SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University women's golf program and head coach Krystal Kelly has announced the signing of four highly accomplished student-athletes, who will attend the University next fall and compete for the Broncos in 2012-13.
The signing class includes some of Northern California's top players in Sadie Strain (Arbuckle, Calif./Christian Brothers), Monique Riley (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley High School), Ashley Noda (Roseville, Calif./St. Francis High School) and Southern California star Meghan Shain (Bakersfield, Calif./Frontier High School).

"This is my first recruiting class, and a very solid class from top to bottom," said Kelly, SCU's second-year head coach about being able to complete the recruiting process through to signing. "I want to officially welcome Ashley, Meghan, Sadie and Monique to the Bronco family. They are not only exceptional players, but are also successful in the classroom."
Strain has won a series of tournament titles, which includes claiming the Sean Remen Memorial Junior Classic at Los Altos, the Woodcreek Golf Club Junior Championship and the Insurance Brokers and Agents of Sacramento Junior Qualifier. Strain's older brother plays golf at Cal Poly SLO.
Riley has been a four-year varsity letterwinner at Amador Valley High School and has led the Dons to an undefeated senior season heading into next week's state tournament. Riley has done a remarkable job volunteering for the First Tee Program, whose mission is 'to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.'
"These players will help our program continue to grow, as the current student-athletes graduate," said Kelly about the character of her signing class. "In my eyes, they are everything I want a Bronco to represent. They are dedicated to their games, devoted to their success in the classroom, but most important, they are really good kids with big hearts."
Noda is another young player who has demonstrated excellence on and off the course. Not only is she an honor roll student at St. Francis and an Ace Level volunteer with First Tee, she recently led the Troubadour's to the program's sixth consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North girls golf championship and was the individual medalist. She has been a four-time All-CIF-SJS Division I honoree and is one of the most accomplished prep players in SJS Division history.
Record-setting prep senior Meghan Shain from Bakersfield owns the lowest season average (73.8) in the CIF's Southern Central Section's history. She also posted the CIF-SCS lowest ever round of 68 en route to qualifying for four-straight CIF SoCal Regional Finals. Shain had a terrific summer in 2011, winning both the Season Points Title and the Kern County Junior Golf Association 'Player of the Year' award. Additionally, she became the second-youngest player to ever win the Kern County Junior Championship, spanning the 75-year history of the event.
