Women's Tennis Signs Two to Letters of Intent

Dec. 11, 2000

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's Tennis head coach Aby Ryan announced the signing of two high school seniors to National Letters of Intent during last month's early signing period. Janalle Kaloi and Catherine Cochrane will be part of the Bronco Class of 2005.

Kaloi is a senior at the Kamehamaha Schools in Hawaii. She is the No. 2-ranked player in Hawaii and is part of the top-ranked tandem in doubles. The 5-5 right-hander is also ranked 100th nationally in girls 18 and under.

"Janalle could be one of the best recruits we have ever signed at Santa Clara," Ryan said. "With her national ranking and her excellent all-around game, I see her playing in the top three singles positions and as a top doubles player."

Cochrane, of Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Ariz., is ranked third in the Southwest Region and 140th nationally. She is 5-11 and plays right-handed.

"Catherine brings a powerful game and excellent serve to our team, which will strengthen our doubles teams and give us great depth in singles," Ryan said. "She also has the national tournament experience which will help us achieve our goal of a national ranking in the next four years."

The Broncos have already completed their fall season and will return to action February 2, hosting San Francisco at the SCU Tennis Center.
