Bronco Tennis Defeats San Jose State 6-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The women's tennis team defeated local rival San Jose State 6-1 to earn another win for the Broncos in the Rivalry series at Degheri Center this afternoon. The Broncos improve to 3-5 overall in the season, and while San Jose States falls to 2-1.

The Broncos swept all of the doubles matches against the Spartans to earn the doubles point for the day. The freshmen duo of Kacie Wagner and Kimmi Cox continue their three-game winning streak at the No. 3 doubles position, defeating Olivia Marshall and Jennifer Williams 8-2.

In singles, senior Stephanie Galainena led the Broncos in the No. 1 position, defeating Amber Silverstone 7-5, 6-3. "Our game ball for the day went to Stephanie Galainena," said head coach Ben Cabell. "She's been showing a lot of improvement and has been a great example to the rest of the team at the No. 1 singles position."

Wagner, sophomores Ashley Pane and Carmen Pham and senior Myra Davoudi also picked up singles wins for the Broncos. Sophomore Courtney Hull fought hard in a tie-breaker match before falling to Williams 0-6, 7-6, 1-0.

"We had to adjust to our opponents today and keep our focus. I'm very happy with everyone's effort," said Cabell.
