SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis will be in action this weekend in the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, California. The competition will take place on Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 at California's Hellman Tennis Complex.

"For most of the team, this will be their first competition of the year," head coach Ben Cabell said. "Our goals are to get them match-tough and get them back into the swing of competing. Cal's tournament is very tough and has a lot of strong teams."

The tournament begins on Friday with individuals from the host California, Arizona State, BYU, Cal Poly, UC Davis, Fresno State, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and UCLA.

The Cal Nike Fall Invitational consists of three flights of singles and doubles tournaments - Blue, Gold and White - with Blue the top flight and White the bottom flight. The winners of the Blue singles and doubles main draws are named the champions of the Cal Nike Fall Invitational. The tournament will also have consolation draws for singles and doubles in each flight.

Seniors Daniella Silva and Nabila Farah will compete for the second-straight weekend after strong showings last week at the Battle in the Bay Classic. Sophomore Madison Clarke will join the seniors in the Blue flight of the singles competition. Junior Zeina El Tawil and freshman Caitlyn Frankel are set to compete in the Gold flight. Freshman Caraline Patterson, sophomore Elizabeth Stephens and junior Giannina Ong will represent the Broncos in the White flight of the singles bracket.

"We're excited to see what our returning players can do and also get our freshmen on the court for the first time," Cabell said. "It should be a good tournament and really the idea is to get as many matches as we can and get some good experience."

In the doubles competition, Farah and Silva will compete in the Blue flight. Clarke and El Tawil are entered in the Gold flight while Ong and Frankel and Stephens and Patterson are set to compete in the White flight.

Admission is free to the public at the Hellman Tennis Complex and at the Channing Tennis Courts. The draws for the competition can be found here.
