SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis fell to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-0. The match at Degheri Tennis Center was delayed by over two hours due to rain and court conditions.
"They were a tough team," head coach Ben Cabell said. "I think that we played okay in doubles in some spots. They've had five matches under their belt and that was a big difference today."
The Titans (5-0) claimed the doubles point with wins on court three and then court two to clinch. Silva and Clarke earned a 6-2 victory on court one for the Broncos (1-1) over Alexis Valenzuela and Camille De Leon.
"They have more experience on the season and are match-tough," Cabell said. "We'll get there but it's going to take us a few matches and I think that really showed today. But Fullerton is a good team and they played well."
Cal State Fullerton picked up wins on courts four, six and five to clinch the 4-0 victory. Sarah Nuno defeated junior Zeina El Tawil on court four, 6-0, 6-0. Danielle Pham then won on court six over freshman Caraline Patterson, 6-0, 6-2. Masako Makiba won 6-0, 6-2 on court five to secure the win. Courts one, two and three went unfinished.
Santa Clara returns to Degheri Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. PT against Nevada.
