Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Lafayette To Move To 2-0

Continuing to play behind the hot hand of Sabrina Clayton, Santa Clara made quick work of Lafayette on Saturday afternoon in Long Island, N.Y. in its second match of the season at host-Hofstra. The Broncos move to 2-0 and Lafayette falls to 1-3.  The match lasted one hour and five minutes.  Santa Clara will finish play vs. host-Hofstra Saturday evening at 4:30 pm Pacific.

Set scores were 25-13, 25-10 and 25-12.

The Broncos hit .434 with 40 kills (7e, 76 att.).  They collected 38 assists, nine aces, nine service errors, 39 digs and three team blocks.

Clayton, an All-WCC freshman honoree last season, paced the Broncos attack with 11 kills, hitting .450 (2 e, 20 att.).  She also scored an ace and three digs.  Taylor Milton hit .571 with nine kills, three aces and five digs.  Dani Rottman had nine kills, hitting .471, with two assists, two aces and eight digs. Kirsten Mead collected 23 assists, three aces and three digs.  Katy Schatzman had 10 digs to lead the Broncos and two assists.

Lafayette hit -.041 with 14 kills (17e, 73att.).  They collected 14 assists, two aces, two service errors, 26 digs and one team block.  They were led by Jet Manzi's five kills and seven digs.  Tori Smith collected 13 assists and six digs.

The Broncos hit .533 in set one (16 kils, 0 e, 30 att.); .292 in set two (12 kills, 5 e, 24 att.) and .455 in the final set (12 kills, 2 e, 22 att.).  

Lafayette hit .231 in the first set (9 kills, 3 errors, 26 att.); -.263 with just one kill in the second set (6 e, 19 att.); and -.143 in the last set (4 kills, 8 e, 28 att.).
