Men’s Tennis Locks up No. 56 Spot in First Preseason Rankings

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After a successful fall campaign and an impressive showing throughout the 2013-14 season, the Santa Clara men's tennis team opens up 2015 as the No. 56 ranked team nationally in the first ITA rankings of the season.

On an individual note, junior Ashot Khacharyan comes in as the No. 122 ranked singles player in the nation as well as No. 6 in the Northwest Region. Khacharyan is off to a blistering start in his third season on the Mission Campus. The Sochi, Russia native went 7-2 in the fall and reached the singles final at the ITA Regionals in October competing against the best-of-the-best in the Northwest Region.

"Ashot had a really good fall," said Head Coach Derek Mills. "We are counting on him to continue to perform at a high level."

With the fall season being a distant memory, the Broncos will take the courts for their first bit of dual match action next Saturday, January 17, when they host Northern California foes from the University of California, Santa Cruz and Sonoma State University. The doubleheader begins at 10am when the Broncos challenge the visiting Banana Slugs and concludes later that afternoon when Santa Clara faces off against Sonoma State at 2:30pm.
