Water Polo Falls at Slugfest Tournament

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's water polo team lost both matches during the second day of the Slugfest Tournament in Santa Cruz, falling to host UC Santa Cruz 9-8 and 18th-ranked UC Davis 6-4.

Jeff Kopacek, Jay Moorhead and Kenny Flanagan led the Broncos, scoring one goal each in both games. Two points were also scored by Brian Sprouse, both in the match against UC Santa Cruz. Erik Akerman, Matt Reilly and Dan Figoni rounded out the scoring for the first match. Dan O'Connell added the final goal in the second contest.

Goalkeeper Matt Petrich recorded 18 saves in the first match,14 in the second.

With the defeats, the Broncos' record falls to 3-9 on the season, 0-4 at this tournament.

The Slugfest Tournament concludes tomorrow with the Broncos playing two matches, Washington at 11:40 a.m. and Cal Baptist at 2:20 p.m.
