Water Polo Wins Two at Slugfest Tournament

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's water polo team won its final two matches of the Slugfest Tournament in Santa Cruz, defeating Washington 16-3 and Cal Baptist 10-8 this afternoon.

Dan O'Connell had his best match of the season, posting five goals against Washington. Teammates Jay Moorhead and Jeff Raegen followed with three scores each. Goalkeeper Matt Petrich recorded three saves, while freshman Gareth Owens saw action minding the net for the first time this season and finished with two saves.

In the second match, Moorhead added three goals to his weekend tally, while Raegen added two. Petrich finished with eight saves.

With the victories, the Broncos' record improves to 5-9 on the season, 2-4 at the tournament.

The Broncos will play again in two weeks, traveling to Claremont for the Convergence Tournament Oct. 13-15. Times and opponents have yet to be announced.
