Water Polo Falls to USC, UC Santa Barbara at NorCal Tournament

STOCKTON, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's water polo team fell to third-ranked USC 17-7 and 11th-ranked UC Santa Barbara 6-4 in first-day action at the Northern California Water Polo Tournament, hosted by the University of Pacific.

With the defeats, the Broncos are10-12 on the season.

Senior Jeff Kopacek led the Broncos in this morning's match, posting three goals against the Trojans. Scoring one goal each for Santa Clara was junior Jay Moorhead and senior Matt Reilly, as well as freshmen Logan Gee and Kenny Flanagan. Santa Clara was led defensively by senior goalkeeper Matt Petrich's eight saves.

Against UC Santa Barbara, the Broncos were led by Moorhead with two goals. Kopacek and Flanagan contributed one each, while Petrich added seven saves to his totals.

The Broncos continue play at the NorCal Tournament tomorrow, playing UC Davis at 11 a.m.
