Men's Water Polo Drops 10-5 Decision to Pacific

Sept. 14, 2004

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo fell to 15th-ranked Pacific, 10-5 in Stockton, Calif. on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 1-6 on the season after playing five of its first seven contests against nationally ranked competition.

"It was another tough game against a quality opponent," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "These early matches should really prepare us for playing against the other teams in our conference. We will improve upon this match when we face Pacific later in the year."

The Broncos kept the match close in the first quarter as Austin Brizgys and Charlie Moore each scored in the first frame. SCU managed to score a goal in each of the next three quarters, but Pacific would add three in the third period to put the match out of reach.

Matthew Martin, Patrick Noack and Kenny Flanagan-De la Hoz each scored for Santa Clara. Flanagan-De la Hoz also earned three kick-outs and a four-meter penalty shot, while Chris Parolin also drew a four-meter opportunity.

Senior goalkeeper Peter Moore had an excellent day in the cage, recording a season-high 14 saves against the Tigers.

The Broncos will travel to UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, when they face the Banana Slugs in a 4:30 p.m. match.
