Men's Water Polo Picks Up 9-3 Victory Over UC Santa Cruz

DAVIS, Calif. - The 20th-ranked Santa Clara men's water polo team tallied a 9-3 victory over Bay Area rival UC Santa Cruz at the Western Water Polo Association Championships in Davis, Calif. on Friday. The win was the Broncos 10th on the season, as they improve to 10-21 overall.

Grant Allison scored two goals and Austin Brizgys added another in the first four minutes of the match to build an early 3-0 lead over UCSC. The Broncos would never let up as they held the advantage throughout the contest.

After allowing a pair of goals, Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz scored in the second quarter to give Santa Clara a two-goal cushion heading into halftime with a 4-2 lead.

In the third period, the Broncos distanced themselves from the Banana Slugs, scoring three unanswered goals in the quarter. Charlie Moore would score the Broncos first extra-man goal of the match before Chris Parolin score his first of two goals to give SCU a 6-2 lead. After SCU goalkeeper Peter Moore blocked a UCSC penalty shot, Patrick Noack added another Bronco goal. Heading into the final frame, SCU led 7-2.

Paraolin and Noack each scored their second goals of the contest in the fourth quarter as the Broncos wrapped up the contest with the 9-3 win. Moore would finish the match with six saves.

The Broncos will face off with Whittier in the consolation semifinals, tonight at 6:30 pm.
