SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis fell to Pacific, 4-2, on Saturday in a West Coast Conference match at the Degheri Tennis Center.
Pacific (4-6, 1-0 WCC) won its conference opener reeling off three straight singles wins after being down 2-1 in the team score. Maya Lopez got the match clincher on court five over Caitlyn Frankel, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
After dropping the doubles point, Santa Clara (3-7, 0-3 WCC) picked up two singles wins by Maddie Pothoff and Jamie Schroer who won both its matches by the same score of 6-1, 6-1.
Pothoff, who came into the match ranked No. 86 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, took care of Anneroos Nederstigt on court one while Schroer beat Jacquie Tan on court three to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead.
However, Dohee Lee evened the match at 2-all with a straight set win over Elvena Gevargiz, 6-4, 6-3 on court two.
Anna Ramos Vinolas put the Tigers up 3-2 with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Nadine Del Carmen on court six before Lopez's match clincher.
In doubles play, Katya Tabachnik and Frankel teamed up to defeat Nederstigt and Lopez, 6-4 to start the match but the Broncos could not capitalize and lost the doubles point.
