Wishing a Warm Welcome to Kaity Edwards

Wishing a Warm Welcome to Kaity Edwards

By Genre McAtee '16

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Kaity Edwards (KE) started her first season on the Santa Clara volleyball team this past August. Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) reached out to Edwards welcoming her to the Mission campus and asking her about her first experiences as a Bronco.

SCB: Can you give a brief introduction and introduce yourself to your fans?

KE: My full name is Kaitlyn Joan Edwards and I am from a suburb of Los Angeles, Calif. named Playa del Rey. I went to Marymount High School in Los Angeles and spent one semester at the University of Wyoming before transferring here last spring. I am a redshirt-freshman and a middle blocker. I love going to the beach, playing beach volleyball, hanging out with friends and family, going to Starbucks and just being outdoors when I'm not playing volleyball. I'm so excited to be at Santa Clara and I can't wait to spend the next four years here!

SCB: As you're starting your first year here, what's your impression of Santa Clara so far?

KE: I love Santa Clara! It's a challenging school and volleyball program, but that's why I love it. The people at the school here have been so nice and welcoming to me since I came here. It has definitely helped make my transition here easier. I also don't have any complaints about the weather! It's such a beautiful place to go to school so I'm very lucky.

SCB: How has playing on the Santa Clara volleyball team helped to ease your transition from Wyoming to California?

KE: It's made my transition here a thousand times easier. My teammates are so great and were so welcoming to me when I came here last quarter. From helping me figure out where my classes were to sitting with me eating meals in Benson, I definitely wouldn't be as well adjusted as I am now. Being able to work with them in the spring also made it easier because I was more comfortable with them by the time preseason started in August.

SCB:  What is your favorite part about being a Bronco?

KE: My favorite part about being a Bronco is being able to put on my jersey every game and represent Santa Clara as best as I can. There's no better feeling in the world.
