Feb. 20, 2005

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The 20th-ranked Santa Clara women's water polo team posted two more wins at the Slugfest Tournament in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Sunday. The Broncos won their morning match against Cal State Bakersfield, 10-7, before notching a 13-1 win over the Davis club team in the afternoon. With the wins, SCU improves to 9-3 on the season.

"Our morning match was back and forth the whole time," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "However, it was nice to see a win over Cal State Bakersfield, who we haven't beaten in a couple years."

Senior captain Catherine Flynn led the Broncos with a season-high six goals in the morning contest. Freshman Emily Bonk added her first multiple goal performance of the season with two goals in the match. Lindsey Bacolini and Kathleen Hamm also scored to round out the Bronco goals.

Katie Radvanyi earned two kick-outs to pace SCU, while Hamm earned one ejection and one four-meter penalty shot. Bonk also added three steals in the game.

In the cage for the Broncos, freshman Randahl Capurro continued to impress. She posted 10 blocks, including one on a four-meter attempt. Capurro also added a steal to her solid performance.

In the second contest, the Broncos proved to be no match for the UC Davis club team as they pulled away to a 13-1 victory. Once again in the net for SCU, Capurro started the contest and recorded three saves in the first half. Christina Malley took over in the second half and added three blocks of her own.

Offensively, Kaylie Pezzuto and Andrea Evans led SCU with a pair of hat tricks. Evans also added two assists to the SCU attack.

Bacolini also had multiple scores with two goals. Mele Rehder, Kellie Dunn, Danielle Mansfield, Alanna Simpkins and Flynn also found the back of the net for the Broncos.

Santa Clara will be back in action on Friday when it heads to the UCSB Tournament in Santa Barbara, Calif.
