Women's Water Polo Picks Up Win at Gaucho Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team picked up its first win at the Gaucho Invitational with a 7-3 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. The win improves the Bronco's record to 10-5 on the season.

The Broncos jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period, holding CSUSB scoreless over the first seven minutes of the match. After trading goals in the second quarter, Santa Clara went into halftime with a 5-1 advanatage.

In the third quarter, the Broncos added two more goals to its tally and allowed a goal from CSUSB to lead 7-2 heading into the final frame. Although they were unable to score in the fourth quarter, the Broncos allowed only one goal to hold onto the win.

Senior captain Catherine Flynn paced the Broncos with a hat trick in the match. Alanna Simpkins also had multiple goals in the match with two. Katie Radvanyi and Kathleen Hamm also found the back of the net with a score apiece.

Kristin Barnes was once again solid in the cage, allowing only three goals and posting eight blocks.

Santa Clara will wrap-up action at the Daktronics Gaucho Invitational on Sunday. The Bronco's first opponent of the day is yet to be determined. If SCU wins its first match on Sunday, it will play for 17th place in the tournament later in the day. If the Bronco's lose, they will compete to finish 19th.
