Women's Water Polo Drops Pair of Matches at Gaucho Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches at the 2005 Daktronics Gaucho Invitational to finish 20th at the three-day tournament. The Bronco's record stands at 10-7 after five matches in Santa Barbara.

In the morning match, the Broncos dropped a close 7-6 decision to Cal State Northridge. After being tied at 3-3 at halftime, the Matadors outscored SCU 3-1 in the third quarter to build a 6-4 and never look back.

Catherine Flynn and Lindsey Bacolini paced Santa Clara with two goal each in the contest. Andrea Evans and Katie Radvanyi also found the back of the net in match.

Defensively, Elizabeth Perry recorded two steals to lead SCU. Bacolini also had a steal to go along with an assist, while Evans also added a steal and an assist.

In the 19th-place match, the Broncos fell to Pacific, 9-7. For the second match, Flynn scored two goals. Radvanyi also scored twice, while Evans, Perry and Bacolini each recorded a score for SCU.

Danielle Mansfield drew a kick-out and added an assist, while Perry had two assists and drew another ejection. Kathleen Hamm also had a strong game with an assist, a steal and a drawn kick-out.

Kristin Barnes played the whole match in the cage for Santa Clara. She posted eight saves and three steals against the Tigers.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday in a noon contest at UC Davis.
