Women's Water Polo Drops Pair of Matches at Davis Shootout

DAVIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team dropped a pair of contests in the first day of action at the 25th Annual Davis Shootout in Davis, Calif. on Saturday. In the morning match, the Broncos dropped an 8-2 decision to Loyola Marymount before falling to UC San Diego, 7-6 in the afternoon.

"We played well in the first half, but couldn't get on the board in the second against Loyola Marymount," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "They are the top team in our conference and we played them better than we ever have."

Senior co-captin Catherine Flynn scored both goals in the contest as the Lions scored four unanswered second half goals to claim the win. Katie Radvanyi drew two kick-outs to lead the Broncos.

In the cage, Kristin Barnes recorded four blocks against the Lions.

In a close back-and-forth match against UC San Diego, the Broncos fell by a 7-6 score. After being tied 4-4 heading into the final period, the Tritons outscored the Broncos in the final period to take the win.

Flynn scored two goals in that match as well along with Lindsey Bacolini. Andrea Evans and Katie Radvanyi also found the back of the net for the Broncos.

Flynn, Radvanyi and Elizabeth Perry each drew two ejections, while Perry, Bacolini and Radvanyi each posted three steals in the contest.

Barnes recorded three saves and one steal in the net for SCU.

Action will continue tomorrow in Davis, Calif. The Broncos will face Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Monterey Bay in their final day of competition at the Davis Shootout.
