Women's Water Polo Splits Matches at Long Beach State Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team wrapped up competition at the Long Beach State Tournament on Sunday as it split a pair of matches. In the morning contest, SCU fell to the host Long Beach State by a 12-2 score. The Broncos rebounded with an 8-6 victory over Pacific in the afternoon match. SCU is now 16-15 on the season as it heads into its final regular season match this week.

The Broncos met a powerful 49er squad in the morning contest as LBSU scored eight goals in the first half to pull away to an 8-2 advantage. SCU was kept off the scoreboard in the second half as Long Beach State posted the 12-2 win.

Senior captain Catherine Flynn and Elizabeth Perry accounted for the Bronco goals. In the cage, Kristin Barnes recorded eight saves.

In the afternoon, SCU avenged an earlier loss to Pacific with an 8-6 victory over the Tigers. The Broncos were consistent with their offense through out the contest, scoring two goals in each period.

Flynn lead SCU with two goals as seven different Broncos found the back of the net. Kathleen Hamm, Lindsey Bacolini, Christie Miller, Katie Radvanyi, Danielle Mansfield, and Emily Bonk each scored a goal in the contest. In the cage, Barnes recorded two saves.

The Broncos will celebrate senior day in their final home match of the season on Wednesday. SCU will host Sonoma State at 3 p.m. at Leavey Pool. Admission is free to the match.
