Women’s Water Polo Travels South for Triton Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo has won its first two contests of the season, scoring a total of 30 goals. Elizabeth Anderson and Hannah Buck lead the Broncos with six goals each. Senior goalkeeper Sydni Estrella has 20 blocks so far.

The team now travels to Southern California this weekend to participate in the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego, featuring a competitive 16-team field, including some of the best in the country. No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 USC, and No. 5 Arizona State will all be in attendance. Santa Clara first faces off against USC on Saturday at 8 am.

"Starting out the season 2-0 is great for us," said Assistant Coach Claire Linney. "East Bay came out last game with a very physical press, which was good for us to see going into this weekend. We see USC right away this weekend, which will be a good test for us to play a team of that caliber. We've been working hard this week and looking forward to our first tournament of the year."

"I think our team chemistry is really good right now," Linney commented on the mindset of the team. "The girls really like working with each other and it shows."

The schedule for the Broncos for the rest of the weekend will be determined by individual game results. Fans can follow along with the action this weekend at the Trition Invitational tournament home page.

After returning from Southern California, SCU will meet local opponent San Jose State on Feb. 19.
