SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Cal Baptist got enough production from the top of its lineup to down Santa Clara women's water polo, 8-5, Saturday afternoon in Golden Coast Conference action.

Top goal producer Hannah Evans scored three times and second-leading scorer Laura Kocsis also hit the back of the net three times for the 22nd-ranked Lancers (20-8, 4-1) who overcame an early deficit against the Broncos (8-13, 1-3).

Hannah Buck had two goals, both with the man advantage, Sydni Estrella posted 10 blocks and Cathy Cantoni scored once with two assists for Santa Clara in just its fourth home game of the season.

Elle Surber's marker with 1:00 left in the opening quarter gave the Broncos a 3-2, but the Lancers scored the next four goals, including two with an extra attacker.

With a goal less than one minute into the second half, Evans increased the Cal Baptist lead to 5-3 and Valerie Spezzaferri scored on a power play with 6:07 left in the third for a three-goal cushion.

"We were aggressive early on, but after that our offense got really stagnant," Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur said. "We need to be more active. When our offense is not in motion, we're not as good. We have to find a way to maintain."

Cantoni's goal with 3:13 left in the third cut the deficit to 6-4 and Estrellla made two stops in the final two minutes of the quarter to keep it a two-goal game.

"We played pretty well defensively for most of the game," Wlibur said.

Kocsis and Spezzaferri added goals less than one minute apart early in the fourth to build the lead to 8-4.

Evans entered the game with 95 goals on the season and Kocsis had 50.

Elizabeth Anderson drew a team-high four exclusions and scored one goal for the Broncos, who have three remaining regular season games, including two at home. Next up, they play Concordia (Calif.) at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Sullivan Aquatic Center.
