Seniors Stephen Koch and Alex Harkins ended their Bronco careers on a high note Friday night at Cal State Stanisauls.
Koch, a Denver native ran a lifetime best and won the 3000m steeplechase, his specialty. Koch clocked 9:21.00 for the win, the time knocked a full eight seconds off his previous best.
Harkins, a De La Salle alum and team captain, crossed the line in second place with a seasonal best time of 9:32.49.
"I am very proud of Stephen and Alex," said Bronco Associate Head Coach Felipe Montoro. "Without a conference championship in track, it can be hard to step up your game at the end of a long season. Both of these guys came to compete today running their best races of the year, and in Stephen's case, the best of his career."
Joining Koch and Harkins in Turlock were a few other members of the men's team. Competing in the 800m, senior captain John Laughlin competed well despite a 45min delay at the start of the event, as did freshman Matt Mosier.
In the 1500m event, freshman Guadalupe Gonzalez closed out his outstanding first year in a Bronco uniform finishing in 4:00.45 for third place. "Guadalupe performed so well this spring, I am looking for him to carry that momentum into his summer training," said Montoro.
Also running well in the 1500m were sophomores Austin Jones (sixth place, 4:04.45) and Richard Zhu (4:06.07).
