Cross Country Competes at SFSU

Santa Clara's cross country team competed at the San Francisco State Invitational on Fri., Oct. 9 where the women finished third and the men finished fifth. Both teams, who rested their top runners, used the race as a tune-up before the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Oct. 17 in Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Chris Sampson was the highest Bronco finisher, placing 13th. On the women's side, freshman Carey Parker was 15th.

Sampson ran a 25:58 for the Broncos. John Laughlin ran a 26:41 to finish 34th. Rounding out the Broncos scoring from third to fifth place on their roster were: Alex Harkins (40th at 26:53), Richard Zhu (45th at 27:00) and Brian Fisher (51st at 27:15).

Parker crossed the line at 22:58 to finish first for the Broncos in 15th place. Mary Reynolds, battling a stomach aliment, was Santa Clara's second finisher, placing 22nd; Melissa Conlin continued her battle back from injury, finishing third for the Broncos in 28th place at 23:29. Erin Hartwig and Sara Allitoti rounded out the scoring for SCU, finishing 41st (23:51) and 48th (24:04).
