Bronco's Sweep Men's 800m at Johnny Mathis

Santa Clara junior Robbie Reid, the WCC runner-up at the 2009 Cross Country Championship, won the 800m at Johnny Mathis on Sat. April 3 with a mark of 1:54.91 to lead a Bronco sweep of the event. Reid set the school record last weekend in the event.

Freshman Guadalupe Gonzalez won his heat with the second best overall time of the day in 1:56.98 and sophomore Richard Zhu ran 1:58.22 for the 3rd best mark.

Also competing well over the weekend was sophomore Erin McCarthy. McCarthy recorded a personal best in the 1500m running 4:43.60. McCarthy also ran a 2:20.41 for second in her heat of the 800m.

Senior Joanna Gistand competed in the 100m hurdles (16.66) and 200m (27.35) while junior Jackie Lynch just missed the final in the 100m with a 13.08 and also ran a 26.97 in the 200m.

Freshman Haley Ney dipped under 5min in the women's 1500m (4:58.65) event and freshman Sara Aliotti narrowly missed dipping under 19:00 in the women's 5k with a mark of 19:00.82.

Redshirt-freshman Travis Pederson recorded a 2nd place finish in the men's 3000m steeple chase with a PR of 10:10.72. Also running well were juinor Chris Mosier, redshirt-freshman Matt Wagner and fresham Ezana Tesfu who finished 1,2,3 respectively in their heat of the 1500m all recording PR's.

Senior Stephen Koch set a PR as well in the 5k despite a cramp in the middle laps. Koch finished in 15:27.

The women's team will be off this weekend and the men will be heading north to Chico State for a two day meet.
