On a warm day in Davis, many Broncos ran the best times of their careers at the Woody Wilson Invitational hosted by UC Davis on April 17. Both teams will be sending their top individuals to the Brutus Hamilton Invitational hosted by CAL next week. The Brutus Hamilton Invitational is one of the premier track meets in the country in which six Olympians will be competing as well this year. The action starts on Fri., April 23 and continues through Sat., April 24.

Sophomore Nhunguyen Le got the meet started on the right note dropping his best time in the 3000m Steeplechase from 9:42 to 9:36.15 for third overall. Despite falling on one of the barriers, redshirt-freshman Travis Pederson still managed a personal best of 10:08.91.

In the women's 1500m, Erin McCarthy showed continued improvement crossing the line in third place with a new best of 4:42.93. Also running well in the 1500m was Meghan McNamara (5:03.90).

Sara Aliotti also competed well in the women's 5000m, running 19:13.29 and freshman Haley Ney won her heat of the 800m in 2:25.42.

The middle distance events proved to be the most successful for the men's team. Junior Robbie Reid ran a 3:57.03 good enough for fourth in the fastest heat 1500m, despite a pedestrian first lap in which no one wanted the lead. In heat two, sophomore Austin Jones dropped four seconds off his best with a 61-second final 400m to win the section in 4:02.92. Also running a personal best in that heat was junior Chris Mosier (4:04.67).

Guadalupe Gonzalez continued his outstanding freshman campaign, knocking 2.4 seconds off his previous best in the 800m. Gonzalez finished third overall in a new SCU freshman record of 1:54.51 and good for 3rd best all time at SCU.

Also dropping two seconds of his previous best was fellow Freshman Matt Mosier. Mosier finished in 1:56.92.
