Howard Student-Athlete Spotlight (April 23, 2020)

GRADUATE STUDENT (2021): Named West Coast Conference All-Academic for the second straight season ... one of eight 'boat crew' leaders on the team ... appeared in 13 games, all out of the bullpen ... led the team with four saves ... struck out 34 batters and walked just six over 24.1 innings ... posted a 1-4 record with a 4.44 ERA ... struck out a season-high six batters at UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 19) over 3.1 innings to pick up his first save of the season ... also recorded saves against Sacramento State (March 7), at UC San Diego (March 11) and at Oregon State (March 23) ... picked up a win against Pacific (May 8) tossing three scoreless innings. 

REDSHIRT SENIOR (2020): Named West Coast Conference All-Academic ... one of six 'Boat Crew' leaders on the team ... appeared in five games with two starts ... led the team in wins (three), strikeouts (21 including 15 swinging) ... second on the team in innings pitched (14.2) ... walked just one batter ... picked up wins against San Jose State (Feb. 14), Stanford (Feb. 18) and Sacramento State (Feb. 27) ... threw three perfect innings against Stanford (Feb. 18), striking out six ... set season-highs in innings pitched (5.2 innings) and strikeouts (seven) in relief against Georgia (Feb. 22) ... held opponents to a .211 batting average.  

REDSHIRT JUNIOR (2019): Appeared in 11 games and started in three ... second on the team with a 1.99 ERA ... struck out 23 batters over 22.2 innings ... held opponents to a .227 batting average ... tied for the team lead with three runners picked off ... set season-highs in innings pitched (4.2) and strikeouts (eight) against Pacific (April 12) ... allowed just one earned run over 18.0 innings in his last nine appearances.  

REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2018): Made 11 starts in 15 appearances ... tied for first on the team in starts (11) ... second on the team in innings (62.2) ... third on the team in strikeouts (53) ... finished the season with a 3-2 record and a 5.03 ERA ... pitched at least six innings in the final four starts of the season including a career-high 6.2 innings at San Francisco (April 28) and at Gonzaga (May 18) ... struckout a career-high eight batters at San Francisco (April 28) ... after starting the season out of the bullpen, the last nine appearances were starts ... had a 2.21 strikeout to walk ratio (53 strikeouts to 24 walks) for the third best ratio on the team.  

SOPHOMORE (2017): Did not play during the season due to injury.

FRESHMAN (2016): Made 20 appearances and seven starts ... both marks were tops among Bronco freshmen and 20 appearances ranked third on the team ... went 2-4 with a 6.15 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 14 walks in 45.1 innings … opponents hit .312 against Howard ... pitched 2.0 relief innings, struck out one batter and allowed one hit to earn the victory in his collegiate debut at San José State Feb. 23 ... held San Francisco to an earned run on four hits in 4.1 relief innings of a home contest March 20 ... struck out a career-high seven batters and held Hawai'i to an earned run on six hits in 6.2 innings to pick up his second win of the season in a road contest March 24 ... started and pitched 4.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts vs. San José State March 30 ... started and pitched 4.0 innings while giving up just an earned run with one strikeout vs. Stanford April 26 ... struck out one batter in a shutout frame at BYU May 19.

PRIOR TO SCU: Graduated from Marana High School in 2015 … 39th-round selection (No. 1180 overall) of the Detroit Tigers in the 2015 MLB Draft ... played baseball for high school coach Erinn McManus … hit .514 with seven home runs and struck out 104 batters in 60.0 innings as a senior ... also played football and wrestled in high school ... 2015 AZPreps365.com Arizona High School Baseball Division II Player of the Year ... 2015 Arizona First Team All-Division II selection ... one of just 13 players and three pitchers to receive that honor ... 2015 Perfect Game USA West Region Honorable Mention All-American ... won the Arizona High School Division I State Wrestling Championship at the 220-pound division as a senior ... named State Wrestler of the Year ... posted a perfect 50-0 record on the mat that season ... 2014 first team All Southern Arizona selection in football.

PERSONAL: Comes from a sports-heavy family ... has relatives that have competed in college football, baseball, soccer and golf — including former 5th-round MLB draft selection Ryan Freeburg, who played for three years in the Colorado Rockies minor league system ... father, Todd, is the Director of Golf at Grand Canyon University ... career goals include playing professional baseball as well as being a physician's assistant ... enjoys listening to country music and watching Netflix.
