PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Santa Clara University men's crew had two boats reach the semifinals on day two of the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa., with the men's novice four advancing to the grand finals and placing second.
The men's novice four finished their semifinal race in a time of 6:30.9, good enough for second place, advancing them on to the grand final during the afternoon session. In the final, the Broncos finished second in the race called the Lindy Cup, crossing the finish line in a time of 6:45.9, just 7.8 seconds behind Temple University.
The men's lightweight four also competed in a semifinal race Saturday morning, finishing fifth in a time of 6:45.1. Only the top two teams from the semifinal advanced on to the grand final race in the afternoon.
The Broncos will complete their 2002 season at the Pac-10 Rowing Championships next weekend at Lake Natoma near Sacramento. The Santa Clara men's and women's teams will compete in the regatta that runs on May 18 and 19.
