Crew Programs Complete First Day of WCC Challenge

LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - Windy and rainy conditions kept times low in the first day of the WCC Challenge on Lake Natoma, but the weather didn't stop the Santa Clara crew programs. The Broncos recorded wins on both the men's and women's sides in the first day of the two-day event.

On the women's side, the novice eight posted a pair of wins to highlight the day's competition. In the first race of the day, the novice eight beat Saint Mary's with a time of 8:13.2. In its second race of the day, the novice eight boat pulled a time of 7:57.94 to defeat Loyola Marymount.

The women's varsity eight dropped both of its races on Saturday as they took on San Diego and Sacramento State. The Broncos pulled a time of 7:40.16 against the Toreros and a 8:18.3 against the Hornets.

In the junior varsity eight races, SCU suffered a pair of losses at the hands of Sacramento State and Loyola Marymount. In the first race against Sacramento State, the Bronco women posted a time of 7:41.4. Against the Lions in the second race of the day, SCU pulled a 9:12.9

On the men's side, the Broncos recorded a win in both the varsity eight and novice eight races. The varsity eight boat defeated Loyola Marymount in the first race of the day with a time of 6:19.6. In its second race of the day, the Broncos raced to a dead heat with San Diego as each boat crossed the line in a time of 6:48.9.

The men's novice eight dropped its first race to Loyola Marymount after pulling a time of 7:22.7. In the second race of the day, the men's novice eight boat posted a win over San Diego with a time of 7:18.2.

In the novice four race, the SCU A boat claimed the victory in a time of 8:09.3. The SCU B boat came in behind San Diego in a time of 9:41.7.

Competition will continue tomorrow on Lake Natoma as the programs close out the WCC Challenge.
