SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara men's rowing announced its 2015-16 schedule Thursday, and begins the year at this weekend's Head of the American regatta. The Broncos take to the water Saturday at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. to start the 2015-16 campaign.
Santa Clara looks to build of a successful 2014-15 season in which the crew made its first appearance at the IRA National Championship Regatta since 2002. The Broncos are sending six boats to Lake Natoma for Saturday's races.
"We have had a productive fall with our first-year guys integrating well into our system and having an immediate impact on the team," said fourth-year head coach Jay Farwell. "This weekend will be a good test and indication as to how we match up against some of the crews that we faced last year."

"We have a really solid group of guys this year and we are asking a lot of each of them to contribute to continuing the success of last year," Farwell said. "We know we have our work cut out for us but the team is welcoming the challenge."
2015 Schedule
The Head of the American is Santa Clara's lone event in the fall. The Broncos begin the spring with two competitions in five days: the Davis Invitational March 6, followed by a March 10-11 regatta against Gonzaga, San Diego and UC San Diego.
Santa Clara will once again compete at the San Diego Crew Classic April 2-3 and the Stanford Invitational April 16-17 ahead of the WIRA Championships April 30-May 1. After WIRAs, the Broncos race at the Western Sprints — which serve as a qualifier for the IRA Championships — May 14. The national championship regatta returns to Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. June 3-5.
"We have assembled another competitive schedule for this coming season and we are looking forward to the testing our crew against some very competitive crews," Farwell said. "Our team is coming off a very solid 2015 season and we have another talented class of incoming rowers and walk-ons. We have some legitimate depth this year and we anticipate that the intrasquad competition for seats in the top boat will be fierce."
