Okano Named a GCAA Academic All-American

June 8, 2001

NORMAN, Okla. - Santa Clara senior Tony Okano was named an All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America, the professional association of men's college golf coaches.

All-America Scholars are recognized for their performances athletically and scholastically. To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must be a junior or senior academically, maintain a minimum grade-point average, compete in at least 75 percent of his team's varsity competitive rounds, and maintain a minimum stroke average set by the GCAA.

Okano, set to graduate this weekend with a 3.42 grade point average in accounting, became the school's first golfer to earn national academic honors when named a 2000 honoree by the GCAA. He was one of three players to participate in all 10 Bronco events during this past season and finished third on the team in stroke average, with a 76.65 mark.
