SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer kicks off West Coast Conference play at home against San Francisco on Sunday at 7 p.m.  

 

SCU (0-9-0) to Stevens Stadium for the Dick's Sporting Goods conference opener after playing the last four matches on the road.  It will almost have been one month since the Broncos last played at home, having hosted SMU back on September 9.  

 

Santa Clara and San Francisco have two common opponents that each has played this season in Cal State Fullerton and Cal.  The Broncos lost to both Cal State Fullerton, 2-0, and Cal, 3-2.  The Dons also lost to both Cal State Fullerton, 3-0, and Cal, 3-2.  

 

Santa Clara is 25-35-10 all-time against San Francisco with the first meeting coming in 1967. The last meeting between the two programs occurred in 2016 resulting in a 2-0 loss by the Broncos at Negoesco Stadium.  This is the third consecutive year the two teams have played to open up WCC play.  

 

 

The Broncos are coming off a challenging nonconference schedule, which saw the Broncos play two teams ranked top-six in the country (#6-Maryland and #1-Indiana) along with facing five straight opponents (SMU, Seattle, Washington, Cal and Indiana) that at least received votes in the most recent top-25 poll.  

 

Carlos Delgdillo and Satoshi Chaffin lead the team with three goals apiece. Miles Robinson has a team-high three assists and has added a goal. Valdemar Andersen has scored twice with Nate Shue and Brandon Gillingham each adding a goal.

 

For the season, SCU has started four goalkeepers in total.  Henning Jolivet has led the way starting the last six matches allowing 17 goals while making 23 saves.  Dakota Havlick started the season opener, allowing four goals and saving three.  Seamus Hudnut started the second match, allowing two goals while being credited with one shot saved.  And in the third match, Aran O'Brien allowed two goals and making four saves before Jolivet took over the goalkeeping duties.

 

 

San Francisco enters the match against Santa Clara after a two-week hiatus, having last played on September 24 against UC Irvine.  

 

The Dons are riding a two-match winning streak, sweeping the weekend series against San José State, 5-2, and UC Irvine, 2-1.  

 

Similar to SCU, San Francisco played a tough nonconference schedule playing four teams ranked in the top-25 (#21-UCLA, #4-Indiana, #17-Butler and #5-Stanford).  Three of the matches, with the exception of the UCLA game, came on the road or at neutral sites.  

 

USF boasts four of the league's top-10 point scorers: Senior Leon Schwarzer leads the team with 13 points, good for third most in the league, on four goals and a team-high five assists; junior Sean Bowman is fourth in the league with 12 points on a team leading five goals and two assists; senior Aaron Lombardi is ninth in the league with eight points (three goals, two assists) and junior Santiago Digiuseppe is tied for 10th with seven points (three goals and one assist).  

 

Freshman Ruben Stuiver has started nine matches in goal, sporting a 3-6 record.  Stuiver has allowed 21 goals for a 2.48 GAA and has 30 saves for a .588 save percentage.

Promotions: Sunday is Dick's Sporting Goods conference home opener. Dick's Sporting Goods tabling will be located in the stadium concourse through halftime with giveaways while supplies last. 

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
