SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Six Santa Clara men's soccer team players garnered All-West Coast Conference honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Carlos Delgadillo and Valdemar Andersen were named first and second team All-WCC, respectively, with Satoshi Chaffin recognized as an honorable mention. The Broncos placed Javier Ruiz Duran, Nate Shue and Terrell Smith on the All-Freshman Team, the most of any school.
The all-conference selection is based on a player's performance in the seven game conference schedule and selected by the eight conference head coaches.
For Delgadillo and Andersen, this marks the fourth time following a season they have been honored by the conference.
Delgadillo, a senior forward from San Jose, Calif., was named first team all conference as a sophomore in 2015. In 2014 and 2016, he was named honorable mention as well as being named to the all-freshman team in 2014.
The last Bronco to be named first team all-conference multiple times was Erik Hurtado who was named three times from 2010-12.
For Andersen, a senior defender from Aaarhus, Denmark, this marks the second consecutive year he was named to the second team. In 2015, he was named to the first team, and in 2014 he was an honorable mention.
In 2017, Delgadillo and Andersen played in all seven WCC matches, each scoring three goals, tied for third most in the conference.
Chaffin, a forward from Puyallup, Wash., earned his first conference recognition as a senior playing in all seven conference matches.
Ruiz Duran, a forward from Barcelona, Spain and Shue, a forward from New York, combined for three goals and three assists in conference play. Ruiz Duran scored the game-winning goal against Saint Mary's.
Smith, from Coquitlam, British Columbia, was part of a backline that helped finish the Broncos with a 3-3-1 record in conference play.
San Francisco's Leon Schwarzer was named the WCC Player of the Year while Pacific's Tristan Blackmon was named WCC Defensive Player of the Year. Portland's Paul Christensen was named WCC Goalkeeper of the Year and San Diego's Aaron Frey was named Freshman of the Year. San Francisco head coach Eddie Soto, who led the Dons to the conference title was named Coach of the Year.
