BERKELEY, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's tennis team concluded play at the ITA Regional Championships this afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Courts and the Channing Tennis Facility in Berkeley, Calif.
In first-round singles action, freshman, Eric Chen defeated Jack Garza from Saint Mary's 6-2 6-4. Sophomores Rick Ruso and Federico Mattioli also won their first-round matches in straight sets. Junior Adam Artunian won his first-round match defeating Saint Mary's Josh Farley 6-2 6-1. Mattioli advanced to the third round before losing to California's Scott Kintz. Freshman Michael Duong also made it to the third round before dropping his match to David Mullins.
Bronco teammates Mike Bruggeman and Ryan Livesay advanced to the third round as doubles partners before falling to Washington's fifth-seeded duo of Dillon Ruby and Arl Strasberg 8-5.
Consolation rounds were cancelled due to ominous weather. This tournament concluded the Broncos' fall season schedule. Santa Clara returns to dual-match action on January 19 at Arizona State.
