SAN DIEGO, Calf. – After an impressive run through the West Coast Conference regular season, the No. 35 Santa Clara men's tennis squad (21-5) could not overcome No. 25 University of San Diego. The second-seeded Broncos lost a tight match to the Toreros 5-2 with two of the final matches extending to a third set.

To open the dual match, Santa Clara conceded the doubles point. San Diego won two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the contest. Patrick Pohlman and Thibaut Visy edged John Lamble and Ilya Osintsev. In the No. 2 spot, the Broncos surged back with a victory from Tom Pham and Kyle Dandan. Dandan and Pham downed Victor Pugliese and Clarke Spinosa 9-7. In the final doubles match, San Diego pulled out the win to take the doubles point. 

In the No. 5 spot, Osintsev tied the match 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Pugliese. The Toreros fired back with a win in the No. 6 spot before Tom Pham tied the dual match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Spinosa edged Vinel to give USD a 3-2 lead. 

With just the No. 1 and No. 2 matches left, the Broncos trailed 3-2. In the No. 1 spot, Bubnic and Dandan fought for three sets before Dandan fell 6-4, 2-6, 4-6. Lamble wasn't able to hold on and also lost in three sets.
