PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Graham McClone continued his hot start to the 2016 season, enabling Santa Clara men's water polo to claim its first victory.
McClone scored a team-best five goals to lead the Broncos (1-1) to a convincing 16-9 victory over Iona Friday at the Princeton Invitational.
The Broncos also received solid production from a trio of freshmen. Mac Carey tallied three goals, six assists and drew a pair of kickouts, Ryan Werner had two goals and goaltender Keaton Fox turned away eight Iona (3-4) shots in posting his first career victory.
Sophomore Reilley May chipped in a pair of goals for the Broncos who play twice on Saturday, facing host Princeton at 8:45 a.m. Pacific and Connecticut College at 12:30 p.m. in DeNunzio Pool.
McClone scored three of his goals in the second period enabling Santa Clara to overcome a 3-2 deficit and lead 6-4 at halftime.

Five goals in the third period allowed the Broncos to take an 11-7 edge.

Santa Clara went 3-for-6 with the man advantage, with McClone, Carey and Garrat Johnson scoring.
McClone leads the team with nine goals on the season. He had a team-high four in Saturday's 10-9 home loss to San Jose State.
The tournament concludes Sunday with the Broncos facing Fordham. The games will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network, which is subscription based ($9.95 per day/$15.95 per month).
