SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In honor of the 17th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Santa Clara University's Department of Athletics & Recreation hosted a variety of activities for young fans this past weekend.
The celebration was highlighted by "Be a Buddy Night" at the Santa Clara Women's Basketball game vs. Gonzaga on Saturday night. More than 40 young fans were paired up with female athletes from Santa Clara's nine Division I women's sports teams.
These new friends enjoyed watching Santa Clara defeat Gonzaga by a score of 65-41, to move into a tie for first place midway through the West Coast Conference season.
Bronco Women's Basketball fans also enjoyed a free youth clinic put on by the Santa Clara women's basketball team on Sunday morning. More than 60 young fans were in attendance.
The Bronco Women's Basketball team with travel to Southern California to face San Diego, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine before returning home for their final two home contests of the season. Catch the Broncos on Thursday, Feb. 20 when they will face San Francisco at 7 p.m. Join us for "Senior Day" on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. when the Broncos will face rival Saint Mary's.
