CARMEL, Calif. - There's nothing like a home course to put a team at ease and lead to some good rounds, as the Santa Clara women's golf team found out today. The Broncos have two golfers in the top ten of the individual standings after the first round of the Santa Clara Colby Invitational and currently sit in second place heading into Tuesday's final round.

The schools will return to the links at Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. for a shotgun start as the Broncos look to wrap up their fourth top-five finish of the season.

Megan Stoddart leads the Bronco quintet with a first-round score of 72, tied for second with Pepperdine's Carolina Llano and two strokes off the pace of day-one leader Eileen Vargas of Pepperdine.

Candice Palmer is tied for ninth with a score of 77 with fellow Bronco Ella Sanman, who is competing for Santa Clara's "White" squad in the tournament. Along with Palmer and Stoddart, Jenny Nelson's 78 combined with the 80s of Samantha Trask and Corey Utsurogi have the Santa Clara "Red" squad in second place in the 13-team field behind the Waves with a team score of 307.

For the White squad, Sanman leads the pack with a first-round 77, followed by Hilaire Fouts' 83, the 85 of Jennifer Sun, Eriko Sato's 89 and a score of 92 from Whitney Saulsberry. The White squad is in ninth place heading into tomorrow's competition.

Competing as an individual, Santa Clara's Paige Wilson shot an 89 in Monday's first round.
