SALT LAKE CITY - The No. 19 Santa Clara women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season this evening, falling 1-0 to Utah on the road despite outshooting the Utes 18-9.

Kelly Isleib, Utah's leading scorer, earned the game winner in just the 14th minute with her third goal of the season, bending a direct free kick around the wall and into the lower right corner of the net. The goal would prove to be the only one in the physical match which saw one yellow card.

Freshman Meleana Shim fired five shots towards the net for the Broncos, and made Ute goalkeeper Hannah Turpen make a save early in the second half and had a chance to tie the game in the 86th minute with a header but missed wide. Redshirt senior Jordan Angeli and junior Kendra Perry each had four shots apiece and sophomore netminder Bianca Henninger earned two saves.

Santa Clara, now 2-1 overall, will continue its road swing next weekend with games at Georgetown on Sept. 4 and Maryland on Sept. 6 before returning home for the Santa Clara Classic.
