SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With high hopes for the 2013 season, Santa Clara women's soccer had two players named to the MAC Hermann Watch List. Seniors Julie Johnston and Morgan Marlborough are expected to have big years for Santa Clara and are being recognized before the season.

"We're very proud of Julie and Morgan for so many reasons and it's a great honor for any player to be on that list," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith, entering his 27^th season leading the Broncos. "It's a feather in the cap for any program that is able to help a player develop to where they are a Player of the Year candidate. To have two is remarkable and both players are very deserving. It will be a great competition around the country for the award and Julie and Morgan will both put themselves in a great position to be in the final running at the end of the year."

In 2012 Johnston led the team in goals with eight and points with 21 thanks to adding five assists. She added three game-winners, including the overtime-winner in a 1-0 victory over CSU Northridge at Buck Shaw on Sept. 21.

Johnston saw the awards pile-up in 2012. She was named U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year, was a M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Semi-Finalist, was named a First-Team All-American, got her first cap with the U.S. National Team, was named one of Glamour Magazine's Top-10 Collegiate Women, was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Year, a All-West Region First-Team selection and was First-Team All-WCC.

Marlborough transferred from Nebraska in 2011 and was unable to play in 2012 due to NCAA transfer rules. Marlborough led the Huskers in 2011 with 20 goals and tied for the team-lead with six assists. Her 46 points was tied for eighth in the country. It was the second time she had scored at least 20 goals in a season, scoring 21 as a freshman.
