Morgan Marlborough Named West Coast Conference Player of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Following her first hat trick as a Bronco, Morgan Marlborough of women's soccer was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Santa Clara topped Iowa State 5-1 in its lone game of the week on Sept. 12 to move to 4-2-0.

The Broncos return to the field on Thurs., Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. vs. No. 14 Cal and again on Sun., Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. vs. No. 3 Stanford. The Stanford game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

"It's a great honor to be recognized by the conference for all of my hard work," said Marlborough. "I want to thank my teammates for making this award possible. Without them setting me up, I wouldn't have been able to score."

"We're very happy for Morgan," said Bronco head coach Jerry Smith. "She is very deserving of the honor because scoring a hat trick is not easy. It was nice seeing her get up to speed with her scoring touch that she's had her whole life. We expect her to put many more in net for us."

Marlborough showed the scoring potential she brought with her when she transferred to Santa Clara in the Broncos victory over Iowa State. With the game tied 1-1 Marlborough exploded to score the next three goals for Santa Clara and record her first hat trick as a Bronco. Of the six shots she attempted, five were on goal and only a nice save from the goalkeeper kept her from notching a fourth goal.
