Women's Soccer Honors No. 5 Jersey of Mandy Clemens

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer added its fifth honored jersey to Buck Shaw on Nov. 3 as the Broncos honored Mandy Clemens and her No. 5 jersey at halftime of the team's 9-2 win over Pepperdine on senior day. Clemens joins Danielle Slaton, Brandi Chastain, Leslie Osborne and Aly Wagner as the only honored jerseys.

"It was unbelievably satisfying to see Mandy again," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "As a coach, we hope that we prepare our students for success and happiness after college. She seemed very happy with her family and is working in a field she prepared for here. To be honored with the rarest honor for Santa Clara women's soccer, a banner on the field is very appropriate for Mandy. She would be the first to thank her teammates but she stands out with all her accomplishments. Now every game day we can have our younger players look up and see her banner and aspire to be like Mandy."

A two-time First-Team All-American, Clemens played in 95 games at Santa Clara and scored 67 goals to go with 67 assists. Both her goals and assists totals are tops in Bronco history.

In her senior season of 1999 she was award the Hermann Trophy and was named NSCAA Division I Player of the Year and the Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year. That year she set Santa Clara records for most assists in a season with 23 and points with 71 while finishing second in goals with 24.

Clemens won three straight WCC Player of the Year awards starting in her sophomore season and was named First-Team All-WCC each of those seasons as well as being Second-Team as a freshman. Clemens is tied for the Santa Clara all-time lead with 16 multi-goal games. Her 199 career points are 36 more than the next closest player.

In her four seasons on the Mission campus, the Broncos advanced to the College Cup each year. In NCAA Tournament play Clemens is second in Santa Clara history with eight goals scored and 25 points and third in assists with seven.
