SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The Santa Clara women's tennis team completed the second day of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals at Stanford on Saturday. No. 5 seed Katie Le advanced to the round of 16 in singles while three Broncos participated in consolation matches.
As the No. 5 seed in the overall singles bracket, Le faced No. 11 seed Taylor Davidson of the host school Stanford in the round of 16. After falling 6-2 in the first set, the Milpitas, Calif. native battled back in the second taking the set 6-1 from Davidson. The match would be decided in a tight third set. The two opponents took the set to a tiebreaker where Davidson edged out Le, 7-6(3).
In the round of 32, sophomore Chelby Cooke fell to the No. 7 seed Klara Fabikova from Cal in two sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Stephanie Skaras, Nicolette Wolny, and Elaine Chesoni competed in singles and doubles consolation matches for the Broncos yesterday. In the round of 64, Wolny topped Kamila Kecki from UC Davis in a three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0(6). Skaras battled through a tough first set tiebreaker in her match against Claire Yang of Fresno State. The Bronco fell in two sets, 7-6(4), 6-2. Senior Chesoni could not top Brooke Irish of USF and fell 6-4, 6-3.
Finally, in the consolation doubles round of 16, partners Skaras and Wolny were victorious over Claire Jaramishian and Claire Meunier of Davis, 8-2.
