SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced its 2014 All-WCC Women's Tennis Team award winners on Monday. Based on overall season performances, Katie Le grabbed First-Team in Singles while Delphine Rouvillois and Stephanie Skaras were both named All-WCC Honorable Mention in Singles.
In her final season as a Bronco, Katie Le has continued to raise the bar for Santa Clara Athletics by collecting the All-WCC First-Team honors for her singles play this season. The Milpitas, Calif. native ended the 2014 regular season with a 15-2 dual singles record playing consistently at the No. 1 position for the Broncos. In addition, Le posts an outstanding 25-5 overall record during her senior season. Le stands atop the all-time leader board with 100 career wins with each season record in the top 10 best.
"I appreciate being recognized this year especially since our conference has improved so much now having three players in the top 35 for singles," said Le.
Currently ranked No. 27 in the ITA rankings, Le's longest winning streak tallied 13 in a row while going 2-2 against fellow ranked opponents and only being pushed to three-sets five times since September.
Le has been recognized by the WCC for her outstanding play each of her four years of being a Bronco. She holds the title of the 2011 WCC Freshman of the Year and the 2012 WCC Player of the Year along with First and Second-Team honors in singles and doubles the past three years. The senior has been playing at the No. 1 singles and doubles position for Santa Clara since arriving on the Mission Campus in 2010.
The senior was the first tennis player in school history to receive an individual bid for the NCAA Division I Women's Singles Championships back in 2012 as a sophomore. Le once again qualified for the tournament in 2013 and hopes to return for the third time in a row this May.
Rouvillois, with a WCC honorable mention in singles, garnered a 12-10 overall record and a 10-6 dual record. The Grenoble, France native played at the No. 3 and No. 2 singles spot for the Broncos and registered a six match winning streak in February. This is the first WCC accolade for the sophomore after joining the team in January 2012.
Skaras's WCC honorable mention in singles comes after an 11-15 overall record. The Bronco senior went 10-7 dual record playing consistently at the No. 5 position. This is the second time Skaras has received this honor in addition to being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete during her junior year.
The Santa Clara women's tennis team finished the 2014 regular season fourth in the WCC standings and received the No. 4 seed in the WCC Championships, beginning on Wed., April 23. The first round match will showcase No. 4 Santa Clara versus No. 9 Portland at 12:30 p.m. The WCC tournament will be held at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
