Box Score

San Francisco - Senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers slammed a match-high 27 kills to go along with 18 digs, but it was not enough as #15 Santa Clara seized a 30-27, 31-33, 28-30, 30-27, 15-6 West Coast Conference victory Friday night at War Memorial Gym. San Francisco (9-12, 2-3 WCC) played some inspired volleyball, but the Broncos (12-3, 3-1 WCC) played well when they needed to and collected the victory.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Voelckers tallied a match-high 27 kills on .305 hitting and added 18 digs, while freshman opposite hitter Kristin Hasselberg 16 and added four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Theresa Hart added 14 kills and 15 digs for the Dons, notching her team-leading 10th double-double of the season in the process. Junior middle blocker KeLicia Shorts tallied 13 kills and added eight blocks (two solo).

San Francisco built a large lead in the opening frame and led 12-2 in the early going, but Santa Clara regained their composure and reeled the Dons in to take a 1-0 lead. San Francisco would roar back riding huge offensive and defensive efforts from Voelckers, Shorts and Hasselberg to surge ahead for a game two win and then took control from the opening serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore setter Jamie Kartchner did another solid job running the USF offense, dishing out 63 assists and added 10 digs. Freshman libero Brynn Maurer led the team with 21 digs.

Santa Clara answered with a late surge in game four to tie the contest at two all in game four and then overpowered the Dons in the fifth set for the win.

The Broncos hit at a .180 clip for the match, including a .833 clip in game five, while the Dons hit at a .142 percentage. The battle of the nets was one by Santa Clara who tallied 23.0 team blocks to 15.0 for San Francisco.

Sophomore outside hitter Kim McGiven and freshman middle blocker Annalisa Muratore each tallied 16 kills for the Broncos, while junior outside hitter Cassie Perret registered 14 kills and 16 digs on the night. Freshman libero Caroline Walters had 21 digs.

USF returns to action Saturday when they host #25 San Diego in WCC action. First serve against the Toreros is scheduled for 7:00 PM at War Memorial Gym.

Santa Clara travels across the bay to Moraga to take on #14 Saint Mary's Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 PM at McKeon Pavilion.
